Kinesio Taping® is a specialized method for therapeutic and rehabilitative purposes which uses a specific tape designed to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused muscles, enhance performance, prevent injury and improve lymphatic flow. Kinesio Taping method can be used on muscles or joints and can be modified to a wide range of concerns depending on a patient needs. Because K-Tape is a non – restrictive, highly elastic type of tape, it allows full range of motion and provides stabilization and support during not only sporting competitions, but during daily activity also.

Kinesio Tape North Vancouver

K-tape is most commonly used during the acute stage of injury and can be used along with other modes of therapy. To bring about change in affected tissues and facilitate the body’s natural healing process, k-tape is used in different ways to achieve desired results. The tape is applied from the muscle origin towards its insertion to work in the direction of the muscle fibers. Contact with the skin provides stimulus for neuromuscular re-education by creating awareness of the muscle group. The athlete feels the tape on skin during activity,  causing the underlying muscles to respond and reminding the body what it’s supposed to do. If the muscle begins to overstretch, the tape provides a cue for the muscle to back off and avoid further injury.

Most common are of using are carpal tunnel syndrome, lower back strain/pain (herniated disc), knee injuries, shoulder dislocations, hamstring, groin injury, rotator cuff injury, whiplash, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, pre and post surgical edema, ankle sprains, athletic preventative injury method, and as a support method. K-Tapes can be used continuously up to 5 days and can provide an additional 2-3 day relief after therapy.
